Nah. First, you can’t just bore out the barrel. You’d need a custom cylinder, since .223/5.56mm rounds are longer, thicker, and would require a moon clip to stay in the cylinder.
This article does a good job demonstrating the difference between the two, scroll about halfway down to see the size of each round.

That Gun is a 5.56mm revolver from the Fallout games, something that has never existed as a real weapon. It’s basically the game’s version of Deckard’s gun from Blade Runner.
