I know I'll take heat for this, but_*not everthing needs foreshadowing._* I can think of alot things you guys don't complain about that had no foreshadowing whatsoever.

I think you're overthinking it honestly...
Also, honestly the 'shippers aren't really a huge priority, and I can understand them going with a different potential girlfriend, especially due to the unfortunate-implications of CheeriMac, (undermining the lesson of "Hearts & Hooves Day") or MarbleMac. ^(Possible incest.)^
There was also FlutterMac, (which used to be popular too) but they apparently aren't allowed to give the Mane 6 boyfriends, as to respect the wishes of Lauren Faust. (And why they were vague on that in the finale.)
Plus. they already kinda catered to the 'shippers with stuff like Lyra & BonBon. (Originally, they were just two background ponies that just appeared sitting next to each other only once in the first season. Then suddenly they became a huge fan phenomenon.)
