I underestimated how much bitrate it would take... even CRF=28 x265 slow preset ended up being over 40mb from the 2160p60 source downscaled to 720p.. also only took about 6 minutes to compress, hmm
 
And I'm not sure tuning the psy-rd or aq-strength would help any cause it probably needs higher values (I left at default)

" I could try increasing the merange but 720p isn't very high so I'm not sure how much it would help... but I'm not sure how you'd increase with VP9, it'd just be for testing with x265..

Yeah, takes a few seconds for the page to load and have to scroll all the way down if you didn't click from the notifications :/
