Maybe people write characters that are redeemed by friendship because…you know…very rarely are people black/white and they have reasons for the way they act? People have regrets and desires they hide by acting a certain way?

Pffft, you should see Discord in some fanfics, where he seems to be a ripoff of fucking Darkseid.

He does have a point, I’ve never really been a big fan of Discord, but now I realize that he actually was kind of badass in his own wacky way (and if the stained glass in Canterlot is to be taken seriously, he is capable of being evil), now they turned him into that overused “bad guy learns the value of friendship” cliche that was one of the problems with older generations. Heck, Lauren Faust actually said once when talking about making MLP:FiM “I always hated how in the girl’s show they defeat the bad guy by sharing with him”.
