That started mainly as a showcase for Pinkie’s outfits and then it became a test on perspective and backgrounds.
 
As previousy explored, Pinkie is a mobad in Ævrefreodeh. inevitably there are fire temples, and procedures on how to deal with the holy fire within the fire temple. among them there are those sitipulating that one should keep their nostrils and mouth covered to avoid contaminating the fire with their breath or saliva. On Equestria, eventually, a specific veil for these occasions, covering the whole face and with a mesh screen to alow the mobad to see in front of them, was developed. ¹ Nobody really uses it for anything else than that function.
 
Pinkie lives in the fire temple itself - the area designated for the ceremonies is in the center of the building, with the mobad and herbads’ living quarters being around it, being comprised of living room, bedroom and library on he right side, and kitchen and bathroom in the left.
 
As for what she’s doing, she’s trying out some spell on her clothes.
 
That big book on top of the shelf is a birth registry that dates from the time Ævrefreodeh was made into a town and hasn’t been filled completely yet (It’s 1982 SE at the time this happens).
