And that’s why I love Chrysalis’s character so much. The moment they considered, even almost accepted friendship showed they’re not completely evil. It was almost like she got so.. haunted by “what friendship did to her” that she harshly rejected it like she did. Maybe that’s why half the fandom didn’t want to reform them/her, because it would of taken something great for her to reform.
well said
@Ultra the HedgeToaster
You just have Celestia banish all three (or four) villains to Discord’s realm ( and this stupid idea was on him / he cause the destruction of the tree of harmony ) and after x decades you redeem them.

What you would need to do to reform Chrysalis wouldn’t just be to show her a new way.
You’d also need to show her that her life wasn’t meaningless. You’d need to help her find a way to rebuild her entire identity.
But first, anyone other than Chrysalis would have to know that to see past her defense of “righteous anger”.
I guess Cozy and Tirek might be the key for this. If not by themselves, then indirectly if a “triple reformation” was ever attempted, gaining the vital insight into her psyche needed, or provoking Chrysalis into letting something slip during an angry shouting match.
Yeah seriously.
From her point of view, Chrysalis lost everything. Several times.
It literally drove her to brink of insanity.
…Queen Chrysalis almost reformed.
But to accept “friendship”… would mean she’d have to accept that everything she’s done in her life was a mistake. That every choice she made, every sacrifice “for the hive”, was meaningless. That her life was a lie.
That she’s Queen of Nothing and never getting back what she lost.
That the ones who took everything away from her, who took her entire life, her entire identity, her “cutie mark” from her… were right.
And the sheer magnitude of that… it’s too much for her to handle.
That is why Queen Chrysalis is so afraid of friendship.
And let’s face it: She and her “allies” had some twisted form of friendship. Sure, they would’ve betrayed each other to take the other’s power. But would they have outright killed the others? No. They had some sort of bizarre rivalry in “who can best take over the world”. Even friends bicker and can be competitive.
Not that they ever would have admitted to themselves that they were actually friends.
Noooooo, they were “just allies”!
They had deluded each other into believing they didn’t need friendship. “We’ll work together to defeat Grogar, then we can go back to destroying each other later!” “We’ve defeated Grogar, so now we’ll conquer Equestria together, then split it up later!”
I bet the next step would’ve been: “We finally won! Mwahaha! Now, let us squash what little resistance is left to cement our rule … and then we’ll split up. Later.”
I bet they might have some really interesting discussions in stone. And that the real problem would start if you separated them somehow.
…
You know what they say about a cornered animal.
Even in the end, Chrysalis couldn’t accept it. She just couldn’t.
She was the one who kept shouting challenges at Celestia and declarations of vengeance, even when her “allies” were slowly backing away.
…Then again, it wasn’t, like Celestia or Luna even tried. There was no offer of mercy, no attempt at reform.
And let’s not forget.
It wasn’t the magic of friendship that turned them to stone.
It was Celestia, Luna, and Discord taking their vengeance on them.

How peachy would you be if every victory you should have gotten was stripped to plot bullshit and had your entire army mutiny because a former ally who is capable of tranforming into anything he can imagine tranformed into a gay jewel bug and all your minions just associated that with a worthy cause for defecting?
I have a feeling I’ll get r/whoosh’d if I even say it

Still in the process of trying to reform her/maybe she wants to remain herself and not change into one of those ugly candy bugs…
Touhou does that a lot. In here we starts with Luna.
I agree
Pretty sure that wasn’t the intention though. You’re also literally comparing an early point to an endgame here. :V
One of my favorite anime tropes is when the female protagonist just barely defeats some female bad guy early into her quest and then they become friends and the female bad guy joins her friends as a fellow adventurer.
Yes, by giving them immense power and telling them what they need to do to DEFEAT TWILIGHT.
>Trying to do good
>Gleefully suggests turning them to stone and casts the spell when he’s the guy who allowed them to become such threats
If he really wanted to reform them he shouldn’t have told three BAD GUYS where an artifact of SUPREME POWER was that could defeat him. All he needed to do was keep them in check and I’d agree, but he was an idiot. If he didn’t intervene Chrysalis would’ve remained inactive, Cozy and Tirek would be imprisoned and Sombra would still be in pieces.
A guy that is trying to do good at the same time don’t know the bad consequences everyone going to get.
He’s plan almost work to bring them friendship in their lives until Chrysalis wake them up.
He did a foul job of it.
He hyper focused their revenge. Teaming up to do evil isn’t rehabilitation nor a good friendship lesson.
The result was the destruction of the Tree of Harmony and nearly the deaths of the mane 6.
