To everyone mentioning the utilitarian functions of diapers:
The ponies don’t have anuses, so that diaper would not be “catching” anything. It is redundant due to a small detail of the ponies’ anatomy.
That or you overthink things, And they’re just smoother than you’re used to.

In my imagined version of MLP (An RP universe), All ponies/creatures wear Diapers regardless of age. And they’re thicker and less flimsy than what I see in this image. So your problem is solved. At least in my mind and imagination.

Your comment is old, but also kind of missing out a lot of middle ground. Physical trauma or birth defects among many other non-mental issues can cause incontinence too. You don’t have to be retarded. You shouldn’t assume that anyone that has bathroom troubles is retarded.
