so… castrated upon maturity under anesthetics (except the one breeding stallion), then left free to roam with the rest of the herd, since when left intact, the other males fight and separate into male-only herds?
there’s also the arab technique of deliberately keeping herds that are male-only, which pretty much eliminates any need for gelding, and reduces the strain of an aging breeding stallion on the herd, since the younger males can beat him up be swapped out by humans and take his place. that requires more cooperation between ranches though, since half of the horse ranches can’t have any females. and uh… that sort of doesn’t tickle the fancy of castration enthusiasts.

I am tempted to ask if I can use the bottom half of this image (after I fix the stripe) for a story I’m writing. But then I’d start updating it again, and nopony wants that.
