We still had some cartoons during the 2000’s that dealt with heavy topics such as avatar the last airbender which touched upon war, genocide, revenge, imperialism and much more although I do agree that cartoons nowadays seem to want to coddle children these days even though they’re actually a lot smarter and sometimes more mature than moral guardians give them credit for.

The early nineties were willing to push the envelope with children’s entertainment. I remember watching Exosquad on Fox on Saturday morning. Conan the Adventurer and Highlander: The Animated Series were also not afraid to get heavier than what would previously be considered kid’s fare.
