Forget this shit I uploaded so long ago. It’s old, and this was from when I used to watch Cinamare Sins. A LOT.
For once, I’m going to actually say this, but thank you to everyone who down voted this nonsense.

It’s alright. I think we’ve all posted things online that we’ve ended up regretting before. As far as things like that go, this is fairly tame and minor anyways.
could you do it without defacing the description? we know it’s old.
I’m just ignoring this shit that I uploaded.
I agree.
I’m not sure where you got that I was assuming magic could not exist on their world. teleportation exists in MLP because magic exists in MLP, which to someone really trying hard to deny the existence of magic would be evidence that they’re in a simulation.
pretty sure any world where people can see the future couldn’t possibly be real.
That, and the actual understanding of what each element represents is… dodgy. Twilight’s Element of Magic always struck me as representing metaphorical magic, i.e. the magic of friendship, more so than actual spellcasting. It would be pretty out of place otherwise – what does casting spells have to do with being friends?
@Liggliluff
I tend to agree. It’s fairly obvious that the show operates under a completely different set of laws of nature from our world. Turning frogs into oranges is impossible in our world, but obviously it is in MLP’s. In regards to the reality Twilight experiences, that sort of thing is just as possible and just as rational as electric lamps – there’d be no reason for her to treat them as qualitatively different things; they’re both expressions of the laws of reality as they’re present in her world.
But teleportation obviously exist in MLP, and has it really been proven in the show that it does not exist?
Don’t conflate our reality with the show’s reality. The show has a different reality. A world where the sun and moon revolves around the planet by the power of the Equestrian leaders.
people have proven that teleportation cannot exist, so if it does exist, there’s no logic or reason that says it should. some things can be proven unprovable. I can’t decide that they’re provable any more than I can decide the sky is unprovable.
if you really want to stretch the metaphor you can say it’s not teleportation, but instead it’s pixels on a screen. the existence of magic would be pretty good evidence that we were some sort of simulation. but there would be no way to prove that, not any more than pinkie pie can jump out of the screen.
Buuut you can’t prove that magic can’t be proven in MLP. They haven’t given enough information to show if it can be explained or not. You’ve just decided that it’s proven that it can’t be proven.
you can sometimes prove that something cannot be proven, such as if there’s a room in which the air molecules keep separating into a hot side and a cold side. any logical explanation for it leads to a contradiction according to thermodynamics, so magic is the only possible thing it can be. which is why such a room can’t exist, because magic isn’t real.
but in equestria, it is real.
And how does that prevent magic from being explained?
You intentionally walk, eat, sleep and such. But you’re not scientifically proving how it works. Those actions are quite inexplicable to plenty of humans … isn’t magic because of that.
The show isn’t going to explain how the magic works, that’s not what the show is about. They haven’t even explained how these disproportionate horses work either, so I guess that’s magic too. They haven’t explained how the governmental system works in Equestria, also magic?
There’s also things in our real universe that haven been explained yet either …. is that also magic?
intent really doesn’t matter though. if I intend to explode into confetti and I do, whether it’s magic or not depends on if you can explain it from fundamental underlying principles. if you can, it’s science. if not, it’s magic. twi does magic intentionally, but she’s still levitating books, teleporting, and turning apples into oranges. she’s just taking those inexplicable magic principles, and using science to find out what she can do with them.
or rather, she’s getting punished for doing that in feeling pinkie keen.
And that’s the problem. Magic in MLPFIM does follow rules. You can call it science if you want, I don’t think the show would disagree.
The magic in the show is the ability to do things with your mind. Everything is intentional and have a reason to happen. Twilight is against there not being any reason, she isn’t against magic. Well, she’s against your magic, but not her magic.
the way I define it, magic can’t follow rules. science is building up from fundamental principles, while magic is digging down below them. if magic followed rules, then it would be science, and the principles it was based on would be the magic.
so for instance science would be experimenting to see how much weight a unicorn could levitate, while magic would be the fact that the horn does the glowy thing and makes things go up for no reason.
the fact remains that in feeling pinkie keen, twilight sparkle is pretty anti-magic. OP is wrong that it’s because she’s using technology. it’s because she’s made to look ridiculous for using it, a stereotypical caricature of how dumb scientists are for refusing to accept things on blind faith.
Technology and magic don’t have to be opposites.
Twilight likes research and finding how things work, but people act like magic can’t follow rules.
The show needs to put people like that (and OP here, if they’re indeed serious) in their place more often, I feel.
Correct.
@Frustration in Excelsis
Part of me is hoping that it’s a parody but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was serious.
Two reasons. First: by most definitions magic defies explanation, and that’s the opposite of science. Second: people tend to conflate “technology” with science and don’t readily recognize non-scientific devices as being technology (or things recognized as technology as also being magical.) This line is blurry but when confronted about it people usually act like it’s clear. Friendship is Magic blurs the line even further by treating its version of magic in a very scientific way.
Dunno.
Hint: character flaws are a good thing
