Duo Cartoonist are two artists, hence the duo part of the name (and if I’m not mistaken one of them is a woman and they’re both a couple). But yes, it would be lovely if they worked on something official for MLP. But for now, they actually work for Disney and work on some of the TV shows there like The Lion Guard.
Hasbro said that the comics are canon until the show says it’s not.
In short: show canon > comics canon.

In the comics Starswirl was alive during all of that, and he helped Celestia recover from the emotional pain.
Great observation, but I know this was planned and made before we knew more about Starswirl
