I’m suddenly reminded of an old fan theory from a good time age that Flim and Flam are actually Apples, but they’re dark sheep from a far off branch of the family nopony talks about. They have apple cutie marks, similar fur and mane colors to the rest of the family, and we now we know there is some unicorn blood in the family tree…
 
Alternatively, F&F are fairly well known Apples, and Applejack set up the whole thing to trick her friends into free labor.

I swear, it felt like there were a lot more Apple family members in this episode.
