Equestria Girls has always had problems with identity and long-term goal. They are constantly flip-flopping between what they want the series to be, how they present it(movies, specials, mini episodes, etc…) and it feels to me they are mainly experimenting on it. I suspect they tried to cut Equestria out of EqG completely in hopes of separating the two franchises, but if this was the case then it backfired and made the series feel more alienating, or at least, that’s how I felt.

Yeah, i don’t know what is Hasbro waiting for doing it. They put Starlight in EG and no one expected that. I am still waiting for seeing Sunset in the pony show and doesn’t happen yet. What the hell are they doing?
