She deserved to be promoted, like have Twi ask Princess Celestia to teach her how to be a wise and capable leader, only for tia to say she can’t because she feels she isn’t those things, so Twi learns about those thing from Zecora finally letting her have her mentorship role,
Mr. YES IAM is definitely not racist. He is portrayed as a serious and powerful magician with a even head and good sense of justice and loyalty.

I can’t see Zecora as Young Joseph as his antics are ridiculous. Like poorly dressing up as a woman to trick Nazis, using toys as weapons (clackers), and asspulling to victory. All while laughing and joking.
Zecora is the only character in the series excpt Sunset who has ever demonstrated actual insightfulness enough to have even a ghost of a chance of pulling off the “Next you will say X!” trick, she’s literally the only option,
The obvious choice seems lazy, and I argue it’s more racist to engage in the pony equivalent of whitewashing by leaving Avdol’s role to somepony else.

Zecora is Avdol.
Zecora is a better pic for Joesph since she’s the only actually clever character,
