I think it’s much deeper then that. There is a lot about relationships and true happiness in this series. Trying to develop what it is. Tons of different characters to follow as well. Very deep universe of characters and world building.

Because this series’ premise is Twilight being a nervous loser. If thing go well for her what is the comic doing to do? Hence giving Twilight a successful love affair was a mistake and was reversed.

These negatives are nothing to what she used to have happen to her early on in the series. But with all this bad, I am sure things will be good soon. Things got good for her finally when she was with Greg. Then it all went south again like before.
