1.- He has been rescued a tiny bit from that. Is not much, but Flash’s main flaws in the past (being kinda flat as a character) aren’t exactly good reasons to hate him to be honest. And recently the writers have tried to mkae him less unidimensional.  
2.- LGBT support doesn’t equal being lesbian. As far as canon goes Sunset MIGHT be het for all we know given that she dated Flash. While she mentions the whole popularity ploy and all, Sunset’s sexuality and romantic interests are never explored or focused at all so the claims or lesbian or bisexual among other things doesn’t work here. Any interpretation is technically neither fully right or wrong.  
3.- She’s also living in the human world as a human and is very much sapient and able to make choices.

This ship might be proper before Sunset went into evil demonic grill. ;)
