Even images that were deleted before the update (like >>169605 (deleted)) are showing the same message.

Have you tried using a different domain, Blackie? I swapped over to derpy-hoov.es, and that seemed to clear it up for me.
 
Reverse image search was apparently much more in beta than anything else - so the page for it claimed - so perhaps it was taken down for the time being.

That’s actually an error message due to a bug from the update / server move. Basically uploads are failing and the broken image getting auto-deleted.
 
We ALLWAYS explain why images are removed.
