My choice wouldn’t really be dating per se, but I think an episode where one of the CMC has her first crush could be cute. Especially if it’s Sweetie Belle, since Rarity being over-excited about her little sister’s first crush could be pretty funny.

This was my first comment.  
“Well, I’m not really so much “crying out in terror”, more so I just think having them both be so similar to each other is kinda stupid and overused.
 
I think it would’ve been a lot better if it was done along the lines of the Jessica and Roger Rabbit thing, where they’re different but make each other happy.
 
I really just think having Mud Briar’s personality be very similar to Maud’s lessens his uniqueness as a character. I really think it would’ve been better if he was pony who gets easily excited and passionate over geology, which was what drew Maud to him, and the fact that he makes her happy and laugh.”
 
That’s not being rude, it’s just me stating my opinion on a character.

I’m glad someone else can see the sound reasoning people like me and Scrounge bring out.
 
I really just hate that he pretty much is exactly that, a copy and paste male version of Maud, but obnoxious.
 
And I don’t even think he would have to necessarily be the opposite of Maud to make him work far better. Maybe he could’ve been an artist who makes sculptures out of rocks and minerals. Or maybe he could’ve been a treasure hunting geologist. Anything but just a male version of Maud would’ve worked better.

Doesn’t have to be all that different I just see this route as plausible as the maud episode was if any thing and I like Coco better than I like Maud to be honest.

If I had to pick a character for an actual dating based episode it would have been Coco and have it where Rarity helped out instead, I don’t complain much though as if any thing the part with Limestone and Marble made the episode worth it even if it had its flaws or if you personally don’t find Pinkie all that funny.

I mean while it is not unlikely that more than one pony have similar personalities I do see your point, the character is a copy paste of maud made male, it is a shame because the best shipping is those where there is at least some sort of conflict, like the old rule opposites attract each other.
 
Then again Maud was like the last character I thought they’d use for a dating based episode, though it makes sense, we all know they will never have the actual mane 6 dating to avoid drama in the fandom.

I was thinking for a few minutes before the episode that it might be Sunburst. Kinda wish they’d done that instead, can you imagine the uproar that would have caused? XD

I would have been fine with him being mostly like Maud if only his portrayal hadn’t been so negative. I wish they’d focused a little more on why Maud liked him and a little less on why Pinkie didn’t.

It has been like this ever since season 1

Reading the episode preview synopsis, I was hoping it was Cheese Sandwich. But turns out Maud was horribly misinterpreting her sister this whole time.
 
The only thing I didn’t like about the episode was that it was a continuation of repeating the same old adage that the Mane 6 don’t know each other or their family members that greatly, or else continuously pushing their own personal likes into each other.

I just think that if they wrote him a little differently, then I think I could actually like him.
 
I know I said this before, but I really think that it would’ve made for a great contrast if he was into geology and other study of rocks and minerals, but was very passionate and easily excitable over it.
 
That would’ve been a lot more interesting than just having him be like you said, “like Maud, but obnoxious”.

I don’t mind Maud having a boyfriend, but I hate the way this guy is written. It’s like the goal was “like Maud, but obnoxious”. The voice doesn’t help, either. I really hope he’s less grating if/when he turns up again.
