Well, she’s SUPPOSEDLY capable of it in canon too, especially considering in S6 she was able to kidnap and replace all the central figures in Equestria, but whenever she or a disguised changeling is on screen they suck at acting. So this has basically been turning her off-screen competence into on-screen competence.

Eh, I’m not holding hope. Besides the fact that this story has been going towards a ‘bad guy wins until the heroes make a last minute turn around’ type plot, even outside of MLP, even when characters in fiction KNOW they’re up against a shape changing foe they always fall for it. Besides, I’m guessing getting AJ mad is exactly what she wants…

Yes, that’s a nice touch. Also, I like how the changeling queen is actually employing subterfuge and misdirection as go-to tactics.
