Overall, I don’t think we’ve had a ‘meh’ episode so far in this season (in my opinion)

Absolutely loved the episode. The opening particularly stands out to me. I think it’s the first that actually left me on the edge of my seat before the theme song even began. Definitely the best episode of the season so far.

^Like I said, I don’t mind at all.  
But there was Fluttershy in a tree, lyrabon, trixie return, magic action, genderspells, starwars references ect. ect. Even if half of the stuff was pure coincidence that is still a lot more “winks” to the older fans than usual.

Overall, I loved it. I still probably place Too Many Pinkie Pies above it as best of season 3, but right now, it’s definitely up there.
 
The redemption maybe needed just a little more, but that’s my only complaint. I feel like the episode covered all the bases for Trixie: a rival to Twilight, revenge for Boast Busters, her redemption, and even some adorkable-ness at the end.
 
Also, best line of season 3: “I don’t trust wheels!”

It's a cartoon show!
Good episode felt the resolution with Trixie could be a bit more organic at the end. I think we’ll see her at least one more time over the course of the series.

list of things I now consider canon:  
  • Hooves having the same color as the coat of a pony (except when shaved)  
  • Age changing spells.  
  • Horses. Not sure about their relation to ponies, but seem willing to give diplomacy a try.  
  • Zecora knowing a lot about magic.  
  • (for a moment) Rule 63. Why couldn’t it stay canon!?!  
  • Twilight breaking the fourth wall.  
  • (sort of) the word Alicorn.
     
    All in all, a nice list of things to be added to my headcanon.

I liked it. Trixie kind of made peace with the Mane 6, she didn’t leave as badly as she did in her first episode, and she kind of learned a lesson; winners don’t use magic artifacts.

I don’t see illusion and trickery, in this context, as an inherently bad thing at all. I think the main difference between when Trixie used it and when Twilight used it was the motive. That old axiom about judging a soldier by what they fight for and all that.
 
Trixie used illusion to prop up her own feelings of grandeur and pomp. Twilight used it to save her friends/town.
 
That’s my 14 cents. (inflation)
