The key is to stop believing that people’s opinions about you are absolute facts and truths. If somebody thinks you acted stupid at a party, that doesn’t mean you’re stupid or that their observations are in any way objective and unbiased; in fact, you don’t even know why they said what they said: they could have been in a very bad mood when they made that observation, for example, and they wouldn’t normally think what you were doing is wrong. You might have ACTED foolish, but that does not mean you ARE a fool. You have to understand that it’s okay to make mistakes, and that making a mistake does not mean you’re incapable of doing that thing correctly ever ever again no matter how hard you try.

You’re right, I don’t write down things to say at a party. If I ever actually went to a party, I’d be the idiot with a blank piece of paper who’s either checking his watch or looking at the door.

Wallflower is like Maud in that I have a strange identification relationship with her. To wit:
 
Directly contrasting Maud, I have a very expressive face and a limited range and depth of emotion. This has combined with my predisposition toward thinking of things that most people don’t to present me as probably crazy.
 
With Wallflower though, I also don’t make an appearance in almost any yearbook or photo collection and tend to disappear from other people’s consciousness, but for different reasons. In the case of the former, I have a strong tendency to avoid cameras that has developed to the point where I instinctively knew where they were up until the proliferation of smartphones made eluding them impossible. In the case of the latter, I was interested in magic and ninjutsu as a child and teenager; and consequently studied on and applied means of “slipping out” of people’s fields of attention, both individual and collective.
 
It’s really weird to see somebody who’s so upset by naturally doing something that I try to do intentionally, so I have to remind myself that it’s the separation of intent and result that distresses people.

Hey, you can make friends with those crittera that live in the transporter beam. Or make creepy holosuite programs about people you work with.

I stopped caring about social interaction a long time ago.  
Funny thing is I have more friends since I stopped caring.

Mine, because I’ve never actually seen Star Trek: The Next Generation. I know about some famous quotes and episodes from it though. But I’m not familiar with this one.

I wonder how many peoples’ heads this reference will go right over.
