Description
“When we left Equestria, the ponies had some kind of religion going, something about Fasting? Either way, I never knew them to fight and kill each other over it, let alone corrupting the youth into turning on their own family for their ‘beliefs’. I don’t care how much religion has changed in this world, I’ll never forgive it for what it’s done to me and my family.”

Fair enough. Still interested in what sort of religions Sirens would have.
Darth Sonic, dear…….repressed trauma can be triggered by mere basic words.
Well to be fair to the Reformist tradition he was hardly the first or only person to criticize the church for it. There had been a two-hundred or three-hundred year tradition of the Catholic Church getting shit for its practices, imagery, and hierarchy from England to Hungary. In fact Martin Luther was accused of being whoever the Hungarian critic was, because he was the last monk/priest to step-forward and very publicly attack the Catholic Church for its nonsense. And the 95 thesises were less an attack on the church initially, but more an invitation to discuss and debate these issues with his companion priests and monks.
Granting here also, every biography of Martin Luther is going to be skewed and stilted, this is as much as I’ve taken away once the popular imagery is stripped away.
What ultimately made Martin Luther a success over the Waldensians or the Lollards was that he existed when printing was a thing and literacy was more in mass than it had been in the 12th and 13th centuries. His complaints weren’t new or unique.
I mean shit, Erasmus had the same critical outlook of the church but was far more polite about it.
that’s why martin luther came in and said ‘that’s bullshit this is bullshit that’s a scam fuck the church here’s 95 reasons why’
That last one sounds exactly like the kind of thing Jesus was angry with…
Well if you want what was a contemporary answer, burning a person alive for their sins was considered by them a good deed because it got the hell thing over with in life and they can possibly avoid that when they’re done.
Then again the medieval church said a lot of surreal stuff, like if you seen this supposed index finger from John the Baptist - never mind we have five - you’ll be able to cut ten-thousand years out of your stay in purgatory. Or for a hundred ducat donation the Church’ll take five-thousand years off your parent’s current detention in purgatory.
They thought that unlike beheading, burning was sufficiently slow to give the victim a chance to redeem himself/herself. Plus, fire kills a lot of bacteria and pest problem, so they in their ignorance of that fact believed that fire was some sort of purifier.
They call them that for reasons unrelated to religion. Plus it’s a stupid term that hardly matches the era.
Actually most of those kinds of dead happened during the modern age.
And besides, it worths nothing that the history of Cain and Abel flew over the head of that sister.
And when it comes to those deaths, sorry but, you should understand that the bible hasn’t been updated since the year it was invented, like myspace. Those old fashioned standards where the law in those times but obviously when it comes to XXI century standards it comes off as sadistic. And regardless, stoning isn’t really that less painful than burning anyway. Overall, this is still a pretty fucked up concept.
So despite their holy book saying to kill them one way, they decided “No, that’s not painful enough. Let’s burn them instead.” I never understood that to begin with; if you believe they’re going to Hell anyway, why not just kill them in the quickest way possible and be done with it? The only reason to choose a painful method is because you yourself want to see them suffer and are just using religion as an excuse.
That really says something about people during that time; I guess they don’t call it ‘The Dark Ages’ for nothing.

The Bible suggests stoning witches rather than burning them, but otherwise what these Protestant-esque people are doing is textually supported in Leviticus.
No wonder Adagio was such a misanthropic bitch by the time of Rainbow Rocks.
The worst part: as far as this autor’s canon has shown, those weren’t the only daughters of Adagio, who knows what other miseries were caused throught the history related to the sirens.
And the worst thing is, my immediate thought after the initial shock was, “Wait, isn’t this something you would do?”
Because, misplaced, self-destructive anger in others seems right up Dagio’s alley.
A minor plot that spiraled out of her control?
Probably not, but what delicious irony that would be.
It’s quite deppresing in my opinion.
This AU is going hard sympathetic on the sirens.
