Not this argument again…
Because there was no reason to question the Emperor’s existence during the OT. Nothing to contradict him. We had no prequels of any kind nor did we know anything about what exactly happened before the OT. The Star Wars universe was barely beginning to be established, and at the time, the Emperor represented the status quo: There used to be a Republic, and then it got replaced by an Empire, which is presumably ruled by an Emperor, who probably had something to do with the Republic’s downfall. He is a tyrant and clearly enjoys ruling the galaxy. He is Vader’s master, so he must be powerful like him.

I don’t really recall match being said about Emperor Palpatine in the original trilogy
Uep pretty mich. I like TLJ; it had its faults, but I think it was necessary to get away from Lucas’ shadow, just like Trek needed to reinvent a bit to get away from Roddenberry’s outdated 50s TV concepts.
Sequel to Babylon 5 that shares a lot in common with TLJ. Although that isn’t Crusade’s fault as it got FUCKED over by the network. TLJ had no such excuse.

The Last Crusade?
Edited
And just like Crusade, TLJ had a very cool concept and story ruined by attempts at larger audience appeal (lowest common denominator for Crusade, the counterculture for TLJ).
That said, I would enjoy swapping out Holdo for Lochley and Rey with Galen just to see what would happen. XD
Kinda like Crusade.
Nothing subverts expectations like an uneven addition to the original blockbuster franchise!
>expects good movie
>gets movie that has both the best and worst moments in the series
Consider my expectations subverted
“Hey Rian, should we give our characters backstory, consistent motivation, stuff to do that isn’t invalidated every five minutes or even a plot that makes sense as a cohesive whole?”
“No, that’s what they’d EXPECT us to do. Every great filmmaker knows that the best movie is a movie with shocking swerves every other scene, because then nobody will see anything coming!”
“But what if the swerves cause inconsistencies in the script or invalidate entire scenes or even the point of the movie?”
“Bitch I made Looper. Compared to that, Orson Welles looks like a toddler messing with his dad’s smartphone. GOD I’m woke.”

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
IT all makes sense now
And I thought I was bad
Come now, don’t be like that! Snoke isn’t feeling up to 100%! He’s like, half strength! And really, when a man is only 50% of what he could be, is it so wrong for him to want to take a load off of his tired old legs?
