Not so much imagknary parents but the thought of his parents and the potential relationship that comes with a theoretical relationship with this idealized hypothetical parents his mind may have conjured up.

It could be he misses the concept of his parents. He may have never knew them but he can still imagine. Maybe Spike’s imagination’s conjured a vision of his parents and he misses that imagined version of them even if that false version of them isn’t real.
