What have you been watching? They still treat Spike like a child, and he in turn still acts like one (he does have his moments though).

That awkward moment when you ship Rarijack and Spikebloom and two different ships become extremely popular for some reason.

I’ll be honest, Sweetie Belle seems young enough to make this ship really creepy to me.
 
Spike seems to be as mature as Pinkie Pie and is treated more as an adult than as a child.
 
Sweetie Belle isn’t even middle school aged. A hell of a lot more of a gap between Spike and Sweetie Belle than between him and Rarity.
