Well, Derpy didn’t do a self sacrifice in the movie. She didn’t take the bullet in front of Twilight because she was running past behind Twilight and didn’t know the obsidian orb was hitting her and petrifying her into a statue. The script even says that Derpy tries to save Twilight before she was caught in the crossfires.
