@Hebbocake
Except I really like Starlight and if I had to choose, at the moment I’d rather migrate with her to some new Glimmer-land. If Starlight has a spin-off then I’d put that as priority. Just like how I know some bronies who “quit” FiM and mainly only care for Equestria Girls.
IMO a migration of some sort for Starlight and her fans would be be a great solution. It worked for Moses and his followers when he migrated out of Egypt, it worked for Mohamed and his followers when he migrated out of mecca, it worked for bronies when they left /co/ or /b/ and made their own Ponychan and /mlp/, so Starlight should probably just get her own show.
And MLP FiM would once again be how you guys like it.
…You know what, guys? Now that Starlight “I replace everyone and this is MY show” Glimmer has a new group independent of the Mane6, I hope Glim stays away from the Mane6 and thus you guys can finally have a Glimmer-free Mane6 episodes just like you guys wanted. Just the mane6, and Spike, like the good old Season 1 to 4 days.
@MegaAnimationFan
Huh. I had no idea that was a thing. Honestly, I just meant in the context of the episode. Like… the situation with him and it is really weird. Clearly, he wasn’t given complete creative control and distanced himself from something he actually created. At the very least, I’m guessing his vision would have happily lampooned the worst elements of the fandom while making sure that bronies at large still felt welcome. Something I felt the end product didn’t quite hit the mark on for this ep.
That sort of thinking that Larson just says these things because he’s forced to has been around for a long time, and I’ve never bought it. Particularly since, as per >>1394220 and the comments below it, he’s not returning for season 8 and seemingly won’t be back, period, so why would he start spouting BS to protect people responsible for an episode with his name on it that he doesn’t even like?
And I can agree that it would’ve been nice to have Spike in “Fame and Misfortune”, but I do think it’s a little paranoid to start speculating that DHX or Hasbro is starting to force him out in favor of Starlight.
And since I don’t see any sign of a reference to a video in brony-in-denial’s comment, I’m guessing maybe you’re referring to the video I’ve mentioned several times. Unfortunately I can’t post a link, since I don’t have an account, but you can find it easily on YouTube by searching for “BronyCAN 2017 MA Larson panel part 1”.
@Nightweaver20xx
Yes, for you. I know it’s not much help, but I’ve seen you go through rough spells here before and it looks like you’re in another one, so I just wanted you to know there’s someone hanging around who still likes you and hopes for the best.
@Jarkes
It’s possible Larson was told to say something to that effect for the same reason whomever retooled his script didn’t want his/her name attached to it. It’s also possible that by “what you watch is exactly what I wrote” he means the story and dialogue, but not the characters. So there is no “evidence” for or against.
@ImperfectXIII
Neither argument–for or against Starlight’s inclusion–has any solid facts. But we really don’t need any to notice it would’ve worked much better with Spike.
“Hoo, boy. Window staring, huh? Was it that bad at Sweet Apple Acres?” Starlight says this to a forlorn Twilight in F&M, and I still can’t take it seriously coming out of her mouth. This is a quippy-sounding line, which Starlight is not known for. Spike is. It also strongly suggests the speaker is deeply familiar with the pony they’re speaking to, which Starlight is not; she only moved in recently, unlike the dragon who grew up with Twi. This is a Spike line, through and through.
The genesis of this comic is a funny back and forth we had about how it feels like Starlight is sort of replacing Spike as Twilight’s assistant, and it grew from there.
I can assure you that PB doesn’t live in a menacing black stone tower, peering down on the fandom with a field telescope looking for ways to start drama. We’re in the business of making funny comics - that’s all.
If people want to do their master’s thesis on how much screentime one character gets versus another… That’s on y’all, I’m afraid.
@Jarkes
Honestly, I’m kinda now getting the impression that Larson wrote the script at gunpoint with what’s being thrown around. I can buy that Starlight was intended by the people with the fingers on the trigger, but now have no real idea if Larson would have preferred it this way or not. It sounds like his involvement doesn’t matter at this point because it’s the “ideas” and not the “words” that really matter.
Did he make sure the Twilight wing thing made it in? Yeah. Probably, but he’s always been pretty good-natured regarding that joke.
I think though it’d probably to be healthier to not look at this as a “people are angry at Starlight again” and more a “people are angry that Spike STILL not getting the credit he deserves”. In this particular episode, Spike wrote in the journal, Starlight didn’t. The CMC got a mention for their journal entry, Spike didn’t. I mean, if you can at least humor the idea that Spike should have at least had a role in this episode, potentially even if it meant a little less screentime from Starlight, that’d be good common ground.
I personally think the leaving out of Spike was a huge miss and the writers deserve the sort of targeted shot the comic above intends to deliver, and it’s not exactly the sort of complaint on their writing they can make a slightly vitriolic episode about to sidestep criticism as creators.

Again, if anyone’s not watched that BronyCAN panel video, I highly recommend it and not just because of whatever relevance it has to our discussion here. At any rate, “what you watch is exactly what I wrote” is a direct quote from Larson about “Fame and Misfortune” from that video; it’s always possible that he’s mis-remembering something or he phrased himself poorly, but I’d have to say, all things considered, it’s highly unlikely that he would have said that if someone had changed Spike to Starlight after he’d written the script.
@Nightweaver20xx
No fair using what would be my avatar if I had an account here. Seriously, though,
@Background Pony #5E70
Like many things, an excuse to write him out. Maybe if we saw it it would be nice but as it is, feels like they’re trying to find reasons not to include him with the M6. At least he has his own group though.
