That does kind of suck, since they could’ve made the “villains” a lot more than just the cartoonish villains wanting to take over the world.
 
I think it would’ve been a interesting way to show that there’s maybe more to a bully’s bullying than just them being mean, but in this case it would’ve been why a seemingly evil people are more than just evil pony bugs who want to take over the world.

I distinctly recall a good part of her dialogue in “A Canterlot Wedding” having more to do with gloating about how powerful she was going to be than getting food for her subjects.
 

 

 

 
Aside from that one line about finding food for her subjects, she was clearly motivated by a desire for power and control. She very much wanted to conquer Equestria from the get-go.

The problem is that the G-rated standard conquering army fare she had the changelings doing even back in S2 and feeding on love are practically anathema.

I personally just think the fact that they made Chrysalis just be a bad guy was stupid. I remember that she didn’t really say anything about just wanting to conquer Equestria or anything, but that as queen it was her job to find food for her subjects.
 
It would’ve far more interesting if Chrysalis was the leader of a queen (possible mother) of a desperate people who need to feed off of others to simply survive, who will do anything to protect her people, regardless of moral choices.
 
That could’ve also made Chrysalis a sympathetic character, rather than just being an evil bad guy who wants to take over the world and be evil.

… you know, I don’t personally think Chrysalis is going to be reformed, but if she does get a redemption episode and her new design ends up looking generally like this… I could get behind. I could really get behind it.
 
On another note, out of curiosity, does anyone know where the thing with fanon designs for good!Chrysalis having white and icy blue designs comes from? Is it just a design or two that got popular, or what?
