It’s outdated and there’s much better programs, sure… but it’s still a good program imo (I’m saying this with little use keep in mind).. and the models don’t look nearly as bad as a lot of people say  
There is a huge issue, though.. it doesn’t support scaling so stuff is small on a 4k monitor :/
 
Programs that don’t support scaling are annoying… like paint tool sai (which I never use anyway and honestly I don’t understand why so many people use it) https://i.imgur.com/exReu8X.png And this is what SFM looks like https://i.imgur.com/0bsskR6.jpg  
Now SFM I understand… support was ended a long time ago and it didn’t have much support to begin with… but paint tool sai not having scaling is downright stupid and honestly I still don’t understand why it’s so popular… if it was free then sure… but they make you pay for it (obviously it’s probably not hard at all to get non-trial version without paying for it but they ask for you to)  
Actually, even if paint tool sai was free to download from their website I would say not supporting scaling is stupid… like paint.net has much, much, much better support… seriously
 
K, I’m done ranting about programs without support for scaling (which is thankfully, small)

From what I’ve heard the problems are it’s outdated and the models look bad. Outdated… Yeah, given the graphics engine has updated like twice since 2004 (Once around when Portal 2 came out that added HDR lighting, quad support and doubled the flex limit; and earlier this year to fix a security exploit with the model that appears when you char someone in Counter Strike) it definitely seems that way…

Eh, I’ve seen some decent SFM stuff, but the anthro-ponies people tend to use end up being a bit shiny. Not the best quality but it isn’t bad.

As a person who doesn’t have any idea about animation: “source film maker is the worse” is a meme or a fact?
 
I mean, I’m seeing that reaction a lot lately and I’m not sure how to feel about it since Derpibooru gets a lot of content made in SFM.  
Is this a meme thing / Some people are butthurt about SFM / or there’s been made a much better program (and many people can confirm it, so it’s not just opinion based)?
