Adding to this:
The Sith attitude ended up severely fucking them over for a while though. After all, it's hard to have an army or stable organization when everyone's trying to dominate each-other and fighting each-other along with their enemies. Thus leading to occasions where battles that the sith could have easily won were lost because some aspiring, power hungry moron shoved a lightsaber through the back of the one commanding the whole battle because "Power".

Darth Bane brought in the Rule of Two for a reason.

Granted, the Old Republic era Jedi had their own problems. Like, say, a group of Jedi Knights killing their own padawans because of a bad force vision.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that in the Old Republic both the Jedi and Sith were kind of flawed.

The short of it is, in the Old Republic both Jedi and Sith were kind of bad.
