also how the fuck is OP trying to start shit? they’re just expressing their opinion, nothing wrong with that, right? right?? sadly, this is not the case – people just bash on us Starlight Glimmer fans just because we happen to love a character they don’t like. how did we go from being okay with people having different opinions to “Hey, this guy doesn’t think the way we do. Let’s beat the hell outta him until he conforms to how we think!” if some people don’t like Sunset Shimmer, leave ‘em alone and they won’t bite back – attacking them isn’t going to make things better, I can guarantee that.

yeah, but here’s the thing: Sunset never chose to change for the better – the Elements of Harmony changed her against her will; she was brainwashed – whereas Starlight voluntarily stepped down and surrendered to Princess Twilight and even turned herself in to face the worst punishment imaginable, but Twily granted her mercy and made GlimGlam her ally. Shimmer got off scot-free while Glimmer was sentenced to what’s basically a lifetime of community service. and Shimmer practically became a Mary Sue with almost no flaws; Glimmer remained the broken mess that she became. Sunny Shimmy was an unrepentant, souless monster whilst GlimGlam was a misguided, delusional tragic freak.

All I’m saying is that Sunset is a necessary part of the stories she plays a part in, whereas Starlight could be replaced with another character (most of the time, To Change a Changeling is the exception) and nothing of value would be lost.

by that train of thought, every character who isn’t Sunset Shimmer is pointless. you might as well merge Friendship Is Magic and Equestria Girls and rename them as The Sunset Shimmer Show. hell, we could even make Princess Twily the main antagonist!
