I'll agree the way they did it was flawed, but I don't agree about the CMC.
 
Might be from how I have cousin with kids with the oldest just 2 years younger then me and the youngest about 10 or so years younger, so I have seen how someone can get more mature but still act like a kids, so the CMC seemed on point to me.
