That's actually a great and really fascinating point. I approve of all this science.
 
So like a gene for a good trait, but sometimes results in a bad thing, will be selected for since the ones who got the good trait will carry it on - so long as the bad trait isn't so common as to cause major problems (only having to give birth half as many times to get the same number of functioning adults is an advantage - UNLESS circumstances such as resource shortage favor lower population).
