Yes, you missed something. The Sunny+Sci-Twi thing was from someone else’s blog. Since the wedding stories coincided, fans suggested they do a crossover. So they did, because it was a fun idea. It doesn’t mean anything more than two creative people decided to have fun with some characters.
Besides which, “canon” is a rather silly idea anyway. People are making up fun stories, trying to decide what stuff is “official” versus “unofficial” isn’t exactly productive.

That’s not how these things work… blogs often go off canon for certain events or for collabs/fanart with other blogs, and it’s not uncommon for blogs to show “alternate universe” versions of characters interacting with eachother.
I watch only the derpibooru.

Look, this is the last thing I’ll say on this. But I can’t stand when two characters being gay/lesbian is considered “forced” or “pandering”. I have NEVER seen the same said for straight couples based on sexuality alone.
