I was originally going to have just one Pinkie Pie snarking about how minimal the box art style for the Nintendo Switch is compared to previous Nintendo consoles, but:
A) Some old consoles have even less defined box arts
B) My Wii U image got a lot of downvotes for being a “take that” towards the console, and I don’t want to do a “take that” towards a console that hasn’t even been released yet.

I’m suprised that they haven’t been bought out by Disney yet.
Don’t worry, whenever I’m feeling mixed to negative about Nintendo, I remind myself that nobody’s had as many ups and downs over the years as Disney.
1921-1928- Starting Point (hard to judge)
1929-1941- Ups
1942-1949- Downs
1950-1966- Ups
1967-1985- Downs
1986-2002- Ups
2003-2006- Downs
2007-present- Ups
I hope I wasn’t coming off as cynical or biased towards Nintendo, it just pains me to see a company with such a rich history in gaming culture fall so far due to half baked ideas.
Amen to that.
Well yeah, but considering how many people are claiming it’s dead already it seems like pre-orders are now considered part of the lifespan.
Speaking of which I’ve been hearing rumors that they’ve been secretly trying to get back in the console game, but again rumors are rumors.
The thing that scares me is that we’ve seen this before. This feels almost exactly like Sega’s death spiral.
The Nintendo 64 was considered by most to be a bit of a mixed bag (don’t get me wrong it had some great games like Mario, Zelda, and Banjo-Kazooie to name a few.)
Fast forward a couple of years and we were introduced to the Gamecube and of course before it was released Reggie Fisame was boasting during an interveiw at E3 that year about how the Gamecube was just going to dominate the console market beacause of it’s “cutting edge” technology. Again the system had some great releases but in the end just ended up falling short due to lackluster marketing and because they were mostly targeting the younger generation of gamers (I say this mostly because most of the people I’ve talked to often refer it as the “kiddie” console.)
“Okay”. Nintendo says. “Back to the drawing board!” and we were introduced to the Wii. Again we have Reggie Fisame talking about how this new system is going to “revolutionize” gaming as we know it by making the games more interactive. Sounds pretty sweet right? Being able to interact with the game, like your really in it? Well naturaly everyone had to have one. Thus makin it one of the highest selling consoles in Nintendo’s history. Only what games can you say you can use the Wiimote in that did’nt involve simply shakinking your arm up and down? (and yes we have one in our household to.)
Soon after the WiiU is introduced and again Reggie Fisame is saying the exact-same-thing and what… within a couple of years after it’s release it’s discontinued? That almost puts it up with the Virtual Boy in terms of shortest life cycle of a console.
And now we have the Switch. Look I understand that I went off on a tangent here, but the point that I (think) I’m trying to make here is the more Nintend tries to re-invent the wheel, the further they get behind. Now as far as handhelds go they have that market lock-tite.
“The Nintendo Switch: Because it worked for the Wii.”
By “a little early in the lifespan” you mean “before the lifespan has even begun”, right? Remember, this might look different if I remade in, say, 2020 or 2021.
That’s the one I’m doing next, but I’ll take a break for the rest of the day.
