It’s because some losers are so inadequate that looking down on someone else is the only way they know to avoid feeling like the bottom rung of the social totem pole. Furry fandom is a small target that’s usually not represented in any given conversation and can’t readily defend itself. So now that they can’t make fun of “girls” or “blacks” or “gays” like their kind used to, the weak and worthless generally feel safe targeting “furries.” So when these losers are themselves bronies, it causes them painful cognitive dissonance to admit that bronies is just a subset of furries, and there is literally no group of “others” they can look down upon. At least without being accurately labeled stupid and racist/sexist, thus actually reducing rather than elevating their social standing. (Better bronies have cojones as strong as horses, and just don’t need to look down on others by group. They can feel good about themselves for being themselves.)
You don’t have to like every single genre of furry art to be a furry. You can like nothing but Doug Winger art with veiny, throbbing ||yay!!!||s, and dislike “funny animal” art. Or vice versa. And you’re still a furry for liking either one of them. Show-accurate MLP-style ponies are still just a type of furry art, in the “funny animal” genre. So if you like MLP-style ponies, even if you don’t like anthroizations of them, you’re still a furry. Nothing wrong with liking either, or both. Or neither, but then you’re probably not here. You can have personal preferences for sure (I greatly prefer show-accurate MLP porn myself, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Vinny Bro for saying anthro does nothing for him personally either) but the vocal hate for “anthro” is just putting on a show as a means of denial.
