Well, I wouldn’t be so certain of that. Firstly, there’s no indication that night time was at all the same before. There’s a number of other things to consider prior to the two sisters coming along. The first of which obviously is Discord, but think about having no protection from the everfree. Timberwolves and bats would just roam free. Not being able to wander out at night when the creatures roam around looking for food would make their nights a bit more foreboding. Prior to Luna existing, no one was there to guide them through nightmares either, so that’s another added thing to consider.

Hmm so you’re saying that these unfortunate stream of events came because Luna could not socialize properly? In addition the ponies uneasiness to the darkness also was a catalyst to Lunas emotional turmoil.
 
 
Hmm I think Lunas inexperience with socializing could make sense but the ponies being unable to accept the calm of the night doesn’t seem plausible. Obviously they’ve experienced it way before Celestia and Luna came into existence

Well, for starter, considering the target audience, and the level of detail in the story so far, it doesn’t really surprise me they haven’t covered that topic in greater detail. That said, I do think there is more to it. I think it is valid that ponies may have been afraid of the night, because previously, night wasn’t guarded, and likely filled with horror and danger. They may likely have been less quick to accept the night as a safe haven. Not to mention, Luna kind of demonstrates how she acted prior to her banishment in the first episode they cover her in more depth. It isn’t exactly welcoming, and she doesn’t seem to understand why until she’s shown how to interact with less ferocity.

I suppose so but I would think she would have royal guard members that would stay up with her which should count.
 
Even still and I know she needs a character flaw, but there needs to be a better explanation other than ponies slept through her night.
 
 
The excuse that ponies are terrified of her cannot be valid as she and Celestia stopped Discord so clearly Luna had some ponies that respected her. Maybe they didn’t show it (because they’re asleep) but surely they did indeed hold her to the same regard as her sister.

Young minds often find terrible reasons to be angry. That is a fair point, but then the whole concept of the two sisters bringing balance to night and day from Discord’s chaos kind of plays a role here as well. It could be argued that Luna expected some to stay up through the night, and sleep the day away, just like she does.

To be honest the only reason I think that is because she is mad because everyone sleeps through her night.
 
You know it’s stupid to think people are ignoring her because they are just sleeping. That’s what night is for and she failed to understand that.

That is a very opposite opinion from 90% of people I’ve seen talk about this character. But to each their own I suppose. I just don’t get how you can see it as brown nosed to get angry when your entire kingdom essentially ignores your presence, and what you do for them. It isn’t an uncommon thing to feel angry when no one appreciates you, or pays any attention. If anything, character flaws like this make her one of the best in the show imo.

God Luna is such a brown nose.
 
She can’t even contain her jealousy and is clouded by her desire to be noticed.
 
This hint of character flaws is why she’s my least favorite character next to Fluttershy
