My take is that she as admitted due to intral eye damage caused by a point blank lightning incident. The flash caused her temporary color blindness that made seeing some objects near impossible. They had to blindfold her for a while so her eyes could recuperate without further damage.

Blindfold a friend (if you have any) and tell them where to go. You will naturally point in the direction you are describing. Learned behavior doesn’t just go away.

Fortunately for many, this source of Derpy’S Eyes is a plothole, Because if you look the Flashback on Pinkie Pride, you can see that Derpy already have that eye look when she was a Philly
