The mailmare thing come from a small greentext fic featuring her on /co/. She was called "Bright Eyes" in it, that was only 3 episodes in.

Where she talk about how she was a diligent mailpony even tho nobody took her seriously.
 
Then the delivery stuff happened and it kinda "cemented" it even if it wasn't really the case.
