Although I do agree that a cutie mark should be a reflection of a pony’s true calling, I think it’s acceptable to relax the rules for OCs; partly because humans don’t really have the same kind of single-thread-of-destiny that ponies do, but mostly, because the show itself is often fairly lax about the cutie mark rules.

I came off a bit short, so let me explain!
 
What I mean is that, from the show’s point of view, a cutie mark is both a talent and a passion that helps define who you are. I’m just saying that since a good majority of people in here love video games, it doesn’t mean our characters should have one as a cutie mark.
 
Think about it: in this world, people would identify you by your cutie mark first and foremost. Is gaming that important to you that you want it to be that? Do you develop games? I just see it as… well, a bit nerdy, and I’m a Trekkie.
 
For example, if I had to wing it and make an OC this second, I’d most likely have a quill and a book as my cutie mark, as I’m an English major, I love to read and write, and love discussing literature. It gives me spirit.
