He’s also simply letting himself be strung along. I’m sorry, but at some point, Spike needs to decide if he’s fine with the affection he gets in return (chaste kisses, gifts) or not. It’s not like he gets nothing. In fact, Spike seems pretty happy with what he’s getting, it’s his more toxic fans who hate Rarity for “being a bitch to him”.

Doing stuff like her winking seductively st Spike solelh because she wants a favor is literally her taking advantage of him. She is falsely hinting feelings in order to get him to do what she wants.
 
If she has no feelings in that way for him, then her letting him down would be a GOOD thing, and the right thing to do instead of stringing him along for years and getting favors out of it.

Yeah I honestly do not understand how people could watch Rarity’s S1 episodes and come out with a “SHE’S JUST A PRISSY DUMB SELFISH BITCH” impression of the character. Pretty much every time she was in the spotlight she pushed hard against that.

Well then they should of loved Rarity since she’s literally the most archetype and sterotype breaking character in the series and pretty much has always been.
 
And of course you had people sucking off the other tradtionally feminine character in Fluttershy from day one, I guess Rarity was just too strong and ambitious for people.

Spike LIKES helping Rarity, she isn’t stringing him along, she doesn’t owe him anything. why should she be forced to return his feelings? At the same time, crushing Spike’s hopes would be bashed too so she’s literally in a no win situation there with the fandom.
 
And furthermore, anyone notice how much more willing a lot of people are willing to Forgive Rainbow Dash for MUCH MUCH worse actions than Rarity? and how most of the people who really hate Rarity LOVE RD? makes you think. Apparently Rarity having an emotional breakdown after being screwed over by someone she trusted and taking it out on her friends… and then regreting it the very next day. COMPLETE BITCH, Rainbow literally blows up a Weather Factory because she can’t get over the fact that she has a pet that Hibernates? and NEVER regrets it in the episode? almost no one freaking cares. It’s a disgusting double standard.

You know, it’s weird. I remember there was a time, this being around September 2011 when I first started watching the show, where Suited For Success was considered an awful episode (with the exception of the crazy cat lady scene) and that the diamond dogs episode and the whole Rarity whining scene was what made lots of people be fans of rarity. Ironic, considering that nowadays the diamond dogs episode isn’t nearly as highly regarded and that Suited For Success is now considered one of the best episodes of season one.

Also Garnet and Connie from Steven Universe, but that’s mostly because they’re runaway Mary Sues that noone seems to recognize. XD

Personally, I don’t like how she is still stringing Spike along and using his crush to get her favors. I don’t hate or even dislike Rarity, but she’s often my least favorite of the mane six for reasons like that.

Yeah, I can understand that. Not the reaction I had, but I see where it’s coming from. I’m more amazed at the folks who still talk like this when watching season five+ videos. Though, sometimes I wonder if they’re even being serious anymore of if it’s just become sort of an in-joke.

I honestly think people responded to Rarity the way they did as a sort of gut response to the “pretty rich fashion” girl these shows usually have as the token bitch; she’s rich and stylish and thus must be a jerk.
 
I recall having this response, which lasted all of about half a minute before I fell HARD.

And my first instinct of her voice was more of a British dialect, but as it turns out, it’s a dialect from Scarlett O’ Hara. Pretty neat design. It also would’ve been great if her eye color was dark blue.

First episode I ever saw was Suited For Success, so I liked her from the beginning, that has not waned at all.

Honestly, I remember a lot of YouTubers praising her, and general fans not liking her. But, I personally liked her more than I expected to, going into season 1 blind. The first episode that she had the main focus in actually managed to be both girly and satisfying for my tastes. She really exemplified how the show could be enjoyed by a broader audience, while still having the target demographic be the main focus.

As I understand, considering that this show at the begining wanted to break the stereotype of girls series, maybe, as Rarity it’s a “kind of stereotype” of the “typical” girl who loves dresses and fashion, made that a lot of people disliked her in the past.

I don’t understand how so many commenters hated Rarity during the first seasons. Sure, she had her moments, but so had everypony else.
