Ok I have to ask a question here because maybe I'm misunderstanding something. Do you think that if they rebrand the show after the movie they would lose the Trademark on Friendship is Magic; and have to recall all store products to rebrand them with the name of the new show? (in this case Guardians of Harmony) Because I'm positive that is not how it works, they could easily sell stuff under the Friendship is Magic Trademark until the contracts needed to be renegotiated and just switch over then, if they haven't done so already with separate contracts as if this is happening, they likely have been working on this since season 4 or 5 (heck maybe even 3 if it truly was meant to be the original finale)[/bq]

No. If they did a spin-off or reboot, the current products on the shelves would remain until they sold. However for a spin-off they'd need to redesign new packaging with the new branding (this is an umbrella term in the industry used for everything from logo design down to color combos) and this incurs a cost both in designing and production. This would be done for multiple reasons, including brand awareness (Your kid goes looking for the GoH-packaged Dash but only sees the FiM-packaged Dash. You and I know it's the same figure, but kids don't always work that way.) And for trademark reasons/protection.

Again, all of this is moot considering they've got not reason to do any of this as long as the original line is doing well.
No reason given
