Don’t see how. It’s easy to tell the difference between say… The 1987-1996 TMNT cartoon from the darker 2003 one, and the modern Nickelodeon one. It’s easy to tell canons apart.

Just that they were found and asked by Starswirl to rule Equestria since, as alicorns, they seem to represent all pony races. At the time, Equestria was already founded, but Celestia and Luna have been around before its foundation.

They’re basically different canons. Much like how Batman & TMNT have different canons/universes throughout the different TV shows, comics, and other media featuring different versions of the stories, different versions of the characters, and such. The Sonic franchise & even MLP are no different. (Taking the different generations of MLP into account. G4 MLP:FiM even has characters named after or based on ones from previous gens. Even brought back Tirek & Scorpan from G1 only new versions of them.)
 
I kinda like having different canons, ’cause it gives the series variety.

Actually, Amy Keating Rogers confirmed recently that Celestia and Luna were born alicorns. But Equestria did not exist yet - they founded it together with Stairswirll. And since they had no kids and no other alicorns were around, Flurry is indeed first alicorn born in Equestria. So all is well :) [/bq]

This isn’t related to pony stuff, but isn’t Sonic split into a bunch of entirely separate stories, practically?  
The various ‘Links’ have more in common than the Sonics I’ve seen.  
Heck, growing up, even the usually-limited Norwegian TV managed to have TWO Sonic series on TV, though I believe at different times: Sonic the Freedom Fighter, with the badass princess and a cyborg bunny. And Sonic in the human world, with pretty decent but unoriginal ‘meet bad guy, fight over plot device, go back to comfy beds and safe houses at the end of the day’ content reminiscent of a certain cartoony martial arts series I never remember the name of (the one with the kids being called ‘dragons’ of various elements, like a country-talking dragon of earth)  
They’re hardly even the same Sonic, and much less the same world.

I just see the comics as an alternative canon, much like how the Sonic comics are a separate canon/universe from the games, or TV shows. And I agree, people can use the comics, or their own fanon to fill in the gaps. (As long as they don’t obsess too much over them.) That’s the beauty of leaving some things vague in the show.

I think all the cute filly ‘Tia & Woona fanart spoiled me on that. Plus it sets them apart from Twilight & Cadance a bit who weren’t born alicorns. Makes them more unique.

Personally I don’t read the comics, but the way I see it. It’s canon until proven wrong and the show has higher authority than the comics. You can believe fan stuff if it’s reasonable. Or unreasonable, do what you want I kinda don’t care. (saying that in general, not aimed at you) If it fills in the gap and makes sense to you, knock yourselves out.

Closest we got were some of the comics, but fans are pretty divided on their portrayal in them. (And the entire comic series in general have become a “broken base.”) Some find Luna in them too goofy at times, and “Reflections” where Celestia got more focus, is one of the most controversial & disliked arcs in the series.  
(Still, the Celestia & Luna Micros weren’t bad according to most.)
 
I wonder if that’s why the show’s writers are afraid to tackle them, because they’re afraid they might upset fans, or perhaps want to leave the Royal sisters a bit mysterious for fans to come up with their own headcanons. Much like how Miyamoto leaves the Mario series’ backstory vague.
 
I like that one brief moment we see them act very sisterly & argue in “Slice of Life.” Hehe

I feel that’s kinda unfair to say, considering Celestia has shown hints of a mischievous/easy-going side, has a sweet personality, and not just a generic exposition-giving character. Luna’s personality while a bit more fleshed out, still tends to vary a bit from episode to episode.
 
I like both characters regardless, in fact I’d like to see an ep’ focused on them for a change.

Maybe you’ve not seen it but whenever I have it ends up “but wouldn’t it be better as auntie luna?” Maybe the favouritism over Celestia is because one actually has a personality.

Actually, it’s implied Celestia spent alot of time with Twi’ when she was little, and Celestia did create the School for gifted unicorns. According to Faust she raised Spike too from infanthood.  
So for all we know, she might’ve had just as much experience, or more then Luna, considering she was on the moon for a long time after going nuts. (Also, I can’t recall ever seeing anyone “bash MomLuna.” If anything, I always see more fan favoritism torwards Luna.)
 
I honestly tire of the “Luna is better then Celestia” or vice-versa remarks/arguments. They kinda ruin these adorable pics for me.
