I’m a Scout Leader, when our kids go camping there’s a small outdoor rock-climbing wall we let them go up; the instructors insist on full harness and helmet for every child. The oldest are typically 14 going on 15. I believe this is as much about actual safety as it is about fulfilling personal liability insurance requirements.
Then they both die and that year’s camp gift was “a pair of authentic skeletons!”
People add shipping tags to everything.
Yep, Rock Climbing.
Well, wherever you are, the people there are all paranoid.
Sorry, I couldn’t tell it was a joke. It’s kind of hard to tell a joke in a text sometimes.
The last time I rock climbed, I was about 15, which was three years ago. I even saw adults there wear helmets, and we were outside if I recall correctly.
I was just joking. I’ve really never seen that, inside on rock walls or outside on real rocks. How old are you? Apple Senior said he’s only seen small kids have to wear them.
Applejack does not care what you think, she does whatever she wants !
I don’t see the problem here. What’s wrong with being cautious? Accidents could happen.
Do they also make you wear a helmet when you walk outside on your own?
@Flummoxed Phoenix
Really? Every time I’ve done rock climbing, inside or outside, I was ALWAYS required to wear a helmet.
I have literally never had that problem. But I also do rock climbing and not mountain climbing, so that may be a factor.
Applejack: “Seriously?”
@Flummoxed Phoenix
You should wear a helmet if you do climb outside in the mountains where there is the possibility of rock fall or even the possibility of loose climbing gear falling down and hit you. Even a pebble hitting you after a short fall can hurt pretty much.
If you climb on an artificial wall like in the picture, most people don’t wear a helmet. At least I never wore one and never saw one except sometimes small children.
The equipment they use looks like normal climbing gear used for sportive climbing (“free-climbing”).
Who climbs rocks with a helmet? I’ve never seen anyone rock climb with a helmet nor do I wear a helmet when I rock climb.
