Except that not a single one of their accomplishments or virtues comes from Velvet. Indeed, Twilight was a whiny, antisocial marechild before she was forced to completely change her personality over the course of a single evening to keep Nightmare Moon from taking over the world, while Shining Armor was an awkward nerd who just so happened to go to school with a ditzy love princess who liked awkward nerds.
All of the evidence points to Velvet really being a pretty mediocre if not lousy mother, especially in Twilight's case, since they only received their virtues, talents, and careers after they left her.
