Overreaction? Rarity, liking a gem, a special one at that, is an overreaction? Oh, and Spike did feel uncomfortable, because he was gonna have what for Rarity is a very rare gem as a snack. The point still stands: Rarity loved the gem but she didn’t seduce him or anything, it was Spike’s feelings towards her that made him take the decision to give it to her.
 
And to be honest, Rarity saying “Wow Spike, nice ruby” would have sounded pretty fake.

I understand what the producers were trying to do, they wanted Spike to willingly give it to her out of his love for her. Unfortunately Rarity’s overreaction to the ruby killed it. Her emphasis on how much she liked it gave the illusion that Spike was feel uncomfortable keeping it knowing she liked it so much and, as a result, reluctantly handed it over to Rarity.
 
Had Rarity just said “Wow Spike, nice ruby” and left it at that, the scene would have looked as if Spike was debating with himself whether to give it or not to give it. That would have sent a better vibe to the viewers.
 
Whatever… it’s a trivial point but it honestly did ruin the scene for me.
