Sadly, I don’t have the full version, but I played the demo, and I felt the same about sailing. Seeing the next area coming closer in the distance was also kind of awesome (Dragon Roost island, in this case).

Yeah, true. It was more of a spinoff game, but still good.
 
I loved the first Zelda, but I think it gave you too much freedom, and almost no hints where the dungeons are, and such. (And the hints you did get are very vague.) I couldn’t find levels 5 & 7 for years due to that.  
The next WiiU Zelda is said to going to be alot like the first and be non-linear, but hopefully give more hints, and items that can access some new areas.
 
To be honest, was I the only one not to bothered by the sailing in Windwaker? I found it kinda relaxing, and I loved watching islands/clouds go by, and day turn to night.

Hyrule Warriors is great, but it’s more a Dynasty Warriors game than a Zelda game.
 
My favorite is the first, because it doesn’t insist on wasting your time with a massive amount of cutscenes and / or sailing. It also immediately puts you into the action (thanks to the lack of cutscenes) and you also have actual freedom as to what you are going to do immediately; most Zelda games put you on a fairly linear path that occasionally lets you choose between two dungeons at best (Fire or Water ? Spirit or Shadow ?). In Zelda 1, you could do the dungeons in any order you please, assuming you have what you need to reach them (and the stepladder for some of the later ones).
 
Note that I have not played any game past Wind Waker out of lack of interest, and I only played half of Wind Waker a decade ago. I have beaten all the console games through Majora’s Mask except for Adventure of Link.

Wind Waker is also my favorite. I know a lot of people give it grief for the sailing, but I thought it really gave the game a unique atmosphere (and the remake fixed basically all the problems with it). And The art style has held up really well.

He used the Pegasus Boots, duh!

I was so ecstatic they made this reference, I’m even happier they made him look like Epona.
 
On the topic of games, mine is Wind waker, I love the art style and premise, and the final boss fight and last ten minutes were great. I also adore Majora’s Mask and the Oracle games, those are probably my favorite of the franchise.

My favorite Zelda is either Majora’s mask or one of the Oracle games. Maybe even Minish Cap because of Vaati. I do love Link’s Awakening, Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, OoT, ect… Damn, I can’t choose… I like most Zelda games.
