I think AJ’s mother married out of the Orange family, and Aunt Orange married into the Orange family.
Though it’s entirely possible Aunt Orange was an Orange before she married, if the Orange family tree is anywhere near as extensive as the Apple family tree.
But Aunt Orange’s husband was also an Orange.
It’s most likely that Aunt Orange is from the other side of the family, as she’s an Orange, not an Apple.
I’ve always figured that Granny Smith gave birth to a son who eventually married one of the Orange daughters. (The genders could be reversed, but it seems more likely for the Orange to move to the Apple farm if it’s the female.)
Nice continuity catch there. I didn’t notice that earlier. It does kind of suggest Babs and Aunt Orange are related, and mother/daughter seems most likely.

That’s all true. I don’t want to go all theoretical and sciency, but Ockham’s razor applies to this situation.
Aunt Orange and Babs are shown walking together in the background. It’s possible that there are two+ Apple families in Manhattan, but the simplest explanation is that Aunt Orange is Babs’ mother. :P But like you said, it’s not confirmed.
If that’s Applejack’s Aunt Orange, wouldn’t that possibly make her Granny Smith’s daughter (Or her husband Granny Smith’s son)? I mean, yeah, Granny Smith is (probably…) only the parent of one of AJ’s parents, so Aunt Orange could be from the other side of her family, but still. It’s possible.
And speaking of, we don’t have confirmation Aunt Orange has any kids. Some people assume she’s Babs’ mom, but not confirmed.
