So, what, don’t say nice things about the statues or you get turned into one yourself?
How does that make any sense!?
 
Being as old as they are, it’s quite likely Celestia and Luna are not entirely right in the head. Perhaps in Celestia’s head, the kindest thing she can do for one who enjoys her garden is make them a part of it.
 
Then they can enjoy it for as long as stone endures.
