@Crystal Neighybánya
I agree, however that is provided that the staff even considers Glimmers redemption and addition to the cast a mistake in the first place. While Lauren and Polsky admitted that they screwed up royally with the moral for “Feeling Pinkie Keen” once the controversy over it broke out, Haber on the other hand hasn’t said anything about regretting how how the “Cutie Re-mark” ended so I wouldn’t be surprised if he still thought that he and the staff were completely in the right with their decision.
Once Lauren left, I think M.A. Larson took up that position since he was the one that discussed what his and Harbro’s ideas were in MMC.
@CMC Scootaloo
While I agree that the CMC and Spike should be considered main characters, I wouldn’t go as far as to include Luna at this point since she doesn’t appear in the series nearly as often as them, even though she has gotten significantly more screen time in comparison to Cadance and Shining Armor.
Make this man king! True that, it makes me sick right now to see Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle listed here among small supporting cast members like Celestia or Shining Armor.
And Luna doesn’t deserve to be here anymore either since “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?”.
No, since “Sleepless in Ponyville” already even. She has an important, recurring role in the show since then.
Those four really shouldn’t be on there and Spike neither.

It is usually obvious what has been mandated by Hasbro. The writers don’t have any reason to mention those things on a normal basis.
Some of the product promotions may not sit well with some people but we wouldn’t have a show if Hasbro wasn’t selling toys. I should point out that there would be no Sweetie Belle or Scootaloo in the show if it wasn’t for a mandate.
@SuppliedRelic
Sure, of course they’ll admit to the small background appearances of toys being Hasbro mandates, but they’re not going to claim that any of the more major additions were mandated by Hasbro.
I’m having trouble believing that the writers themselves decided that it would be a good idea to place a gigantic crystal castle in the middle of a town of thatched-roof cottages and brick houses.
@Background Pony #93F8
Yes, because only Hasbro comes up with any ideas in the show…
That kind of things is just plan stupid.
Nice strawman. I never said “Hasbro comes up with all ideas”.
I’m saying that the ideas that Hasbro DOES force into the show, the staff are always going to claim they did it, because saying “yeah Hasbro forced us to put this in the show” would be insulting Hasbro.
That is not true. Jim Miller (Supervising Director) has already revealed several of the things that were mandated to be included in the show by Hasbro. The show runners are given free will to include the items the way they see fit.

Eh, I’m going by amount of screentime and the overall level of focus the characters have received. Characters can play a big role and get a good amount of screentime even in episodes that isn’t primarily focused on them. Number of dedicated episodes isn’t a useless metric to look at, but it’s not the only one either.
@Background Pony #DC1A
The number of appearances in the show doesn’t really count for that much by themselves, it depends on if they were a main focus of the episode.
It is kinda hard to not count every episode focused on the Cutie Mark Crusaders, even if it was only one member in particular. There is no debating that Spike has probably had more appearances than any of the CMC combined, but we should probably take other factors into consideration.
@SuppliedRelic
If anything, I’d say the opposite, though the difference in screentime between the 10 characters isn’t huge either way. Still, Spike has been there since the very beginning and has as much screentime as the others. The CMC have a lot too, of course, and they’re all main characters, but Spike has been around the longest, and has probably had more focus than any of the CMC individually.
Of course, are you comparing all three of the CMC put together to Spike? That would be pretty unfair. All three of them together probably have more screentime than any single other main character, even Twilight. I don’t know if anyone has ever counted up an estimate on total screentime per character, though.
Spike and the CMC are absolutely part of the main cast, and should not be listed under secondary. They both have massive amounts of screentime, their own episodes, and so on. Anyone who thinks they are secondary characters at this point is just being silly.
This is very true. I’d say more so for the CMC than Spike, though.
@Background Pony #C59E
A good comment adding a new character to inject new storylines but it’s also a double-edged sword depending on the writers.
Case in point: Cousin Oliver, Scrappy Doo, the triumvirate of Foop/Sparky/Chloe, Elmyra to Pinky & the Brain, etc.
I’m not saying Starlight is one, mind you, but considering Twilight is now alicorn, we need another socially-awkward unicorn and Starlight for some reason managed to fit the bill.
How is this surprising? The show has been running for 5 seasons, with over a hundred episodes plus three movies: eventually, the idea well in the writer’s room is going to start to feel a little dry when you know you’ve got at least another season’s worth of episodes whose ideas you’ve got to come up with. Introducing a new character, and one with a clear character arc for her to go through, thus giving you a whole new realm of possibilities for stories, is exactly the kind of idea a writer would come up with.
See you soon.
Ok? I don’t understand, and I’m not sure if I want you to explain.
Her arc doesn’t even make sense anymore. At this point I just want her arc to be enjoyable.
That was uncalled for.
@DaKurgan
Was it really that bad? Her arc isn’t even finished.

No they usually give avoid answering the question. They flat out said it was their idea.
NO
Aside from Lauren, have they ever out-and-out said what was and wasn’t executive interference?
